B'nai Jacob Synagogue

A warm and welcoming egalitarian conservative community shul in Middletown, Pennsylvania

B’nai Jacob Synagogue, built in 1906 by Middletown’s Jewish community, was the town’s first and only synagogue. Settlers from Lithuania chose the small town for its resemblance to their homeland and accessibility via the Pennsylvania Railroad. The simple one-story building, with stained glass windows and original fixtures, remains the oldest continuously used synagogue in Dauphin County and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
